2023 April – He Arose!

One of the neat things about memory is being able to recall very pleasant events and situations many years after they occurred.  I’ve written about my Dad a few times, telling about his love for the Lord, love for God’s Word, and how he taught me how to study the Bible with a Greek-English Lexicon before I was a teenager.

Another thing he loved was music! He could read shaped notes without an instrument, and pick up new hymns and gospel songs so quickly, it was surreal!  I can still see his image in my mind as he was leading the singing or when he taught singing schools in Alabama. He had a beautiful bass voice, and he could sing tenor with the best of them.

One of his favorite songs was special for Easter.  UP FROM THE GRAVE HE  AROSE! He sang the verses softly and gently, but when the chorus began, the crescendo kicked in firmly and with power!  It’s one of those favorite old hymns that celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ… Hallelujah! Christ arose!

UP FROM THE GRAVE HE AROSE!

By Robert Lowry, 1874

Verse 1
Low in the grave He lay,
Jesus my Savior,
Waiting the coming day,
Jesus my Lord!

Chorus
Up from the grave He arose,
With a mighty triumph o’er His foes,
He arose a Victor from the dark domain,
And He lives forever,
With His saints to reign.
He arose! He arose!
Hallelujah! Christ arose!

Verse 2
Vainly they watch His bed,
Jesus my Savior;
Vainly they seal the dead,
Jesus my Lord!

Chorus
Up from the grave He arose,
With a mighty triumph o’er His foes,
He arose a Victor from the dark domain,
And He lives forever,
With His saints to reign.
He arose! He arose!
Hallelujah! Christ arose!

Verse 3
Death cannot keep its Prey,
Jesus my Savior;
He tore the bars away,
Jesus my Lord!

Chorus
Up from the grave He arose,
With a mighty triumph o’er His foes,
He arose a Victor from the dark domain,
And He lives forever,
With His saints to reign.
He arose! He arose!
Hallelujah! Christ arose!

Amen! Blessings,

Sandra
